Scouting is one of the world’s largest and most successful youth movements, providing young people with opportunities to grow through adventure, leadership, community service, and learning by doing. What began in 1907 with the vision of Robert Baden-Powell has become a truly global movement that continues to inspire young people more than a century later.

The scale of Scouting is remarkable:

  • More than one billion young people have participated in Scouting since its foundation.
  • Over 57 million Scouts are active today across more than 170 countries and territories.
  • In Australia, hundreds of thousands of young people have benefited from Scouting over the past century.
  • In Victoria, Scouts Victoria supports thousands of young people and adult volunteers through local Groups, Districts, Regions, campsites, and major events.

Closer to home, Kingston District is proud to support Scouting across the City of Kingston and surrounding communities. Our District is home to approximately 300 young people and more than 100 dedicated adult volunteerswho work together to create meaningful experiences for local youth.

Kingston District currently supports nine Scout Groups:

  • 1st Chelsea Heights Scout Group
  • 1st Edithvale Scout Group
  • 4th Mordialloc Sea Scouts
  • 7th Cheltenham Scout Grou
  • Aspendale Scout Group
  • Clayton Scout Group (Opening 2027)
  • Dingley Scout Group
  • Mentone Scout Group
  • Moorabbin Air Scouts

Together, these Groups provide programs for young people aged 5 to 25 years, offering pathways through Joey Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venturer Scouts, and Rover Scouts.

What makes Scouting unique is our commitment to being youth-led and adult-supported. Young people are not simply participants—they are decision-makers, planners, problem-solvers, and leaders. From choosing activities and planning camps to leading community projects and participating in major state, national, and international events, young people are encouraged to take ownership of their Scouting journey.

Scouting offers experiences that cannot easily be replicated elsewhere. Young people can learn to paddle a canoe, climb a mountain, build a campfire, lead a team, support their local community, travel interstate or overseas, earn recognised awards, and develop skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Along the way, they build resilience, confidence, independence, and lifelong friendships.

In Kingston District, we believe Scouting should be accessible, welcoming, and relevant to every young person. We work closely with schools, community organisations, local government, and families to ensure our programs continue to meet the changing needs of young people while remaining true to the values that have made Scouting successful for more than 100 years.

Whether it is a Cub Scout attending their first camp, a Scout leading a community service project, a Venturer challenging themselves through an adventurous activity, or a Rover developing leadership skills through service, Scouting provides opportunities for young people to discover who they are and what they can achieve.

At its heart, Scouting exists to help create a better world by empowering young people to become active citizens, capable leaders, and caring members of their communities.

Adventure starts here, and in Kingston District, there is a place for everyone.
